Today I’d like to welcome Deb from Honey Bee Promotions, a hot new promotional company for authors! Hi Deb!
I started out as an author of erotic romance many moons ago, but somehow it never felt quite right for me. I fell into it by accident and stayed there for a while. It was fun, but for me personally, there were far too many cons which outweighed the pros. When something becomes an obligation, you need to leave it behind and I felt this was the case with writing in that genre.
I did however, enjoy helping other authors. I’d offer advice or suggestions to newbies coming through the ranks; I knew a lot of the Yahoo groups and forums that attracted readers. And I enjoyed setting up blogs and playing with graphics. Most of all, I actually enjoyed helping people.
I’ve wanted to be my own boss for a while and the more I Thought about it, the more it seemed a possibility. So last year, I sat down one day with my pen and paper and sketched out a few ideas. I found several authors who were willing to let me promote them for free, while I fine-tuned my skills and found my comfort zone. By June 2011 Honey Bee Promotions was up and running. We had a website, Facebook page, two blogs and two Twitter pages (for erotic and non-erotic romance).
As an ex author I can appreciate the fact that money is tight and this is my main reasoning for offering as many freebies as I can with the promotional packages at Honey Bee Promotions. Value for money is essential for a lot of people these days and authors are no exception. At the start of 2012 Honey Bee Promotions took the idea of the freebie one step further and we now offer a free review service. We don’t use a rating system, as I’m not a fan of such things. What we do give is honest views which allow readers to form their own opinions.
In a few short months I’ve formed strong working relationships with several publishing houses and many authors. There’s no doubt in my mind that author promotions is an exciting business to be in. Every day is different and I treat all my clients as the individuals they are. Yes, it’s hard work, especially when I still have a day job and family to look after. Yet, knowing I’m helping authors get their work out there is an amazing feeling and one which I hope I’ll be experiencing for a long time to come.
