I’m dreaming of a winter wonderland. What, that’s not the way the Christmas Carols go? Well I may be slightly confused because living in the South means snow is not on the menu. And I can live with that.
But I cannot be in the Christmas Spirit with 70 degree weather. Sending the kids to school in shorts should be done in May not December. A lot can be forgiven in the Christmas hoopla -like a radio station playing Christmas Carols since November 1 – if there is cool weather.
My association with Christmas and cool weather comes from growing up in West Virginia. From October to March it would be cold enough to snow. There was no guarantee of snow on Christmas day but you usually had some flakes fall in December at some point.
Our weather is so mild here in NC we either get rain or ice. Ice is not the same as snow despite them both being frozen water. Ice is heavier and harder to drive on. It can look just as pretty at night with the moonlight reflecting off it. But we aren’t even getting ice when the cold front comes through. It’ll be too warm.
So how about you? Are you in Mr. Scrooge’s camp this year or are you basking in the warm glow of Christmas?

Christmas will be tough this year I’m contributing my baking to the Christmas family gathering but can’t manage presents hopefully made from scratch Coconut Cream Pie, Double Banana Foster’s Cream Pie, 7-layer Cake, & potatoes au gratin will be sufficient… I’ve never been a “Scrooge” at the holidays too many fond memories thanks to Mom.
Happy Holidays,

Christmas? It was 83 degrees today!! I have a fake snowman in the yard that looks like he is melting!! lol!!! I’m not complaining though. The weather is so weird this year but I’m not a cold person. I love balmy weather!! Though it is totally strange to have this warm weather right now. It doesn’t make me feel scroogish though!! I still love Christmas!!
Michelle – I’m sure your family will love your baking. I’m sending one of my uncles are carepackage of Christmas treats as well. Happy Holidays.
Nikki – Yes we are having weird weather. Glad you’re keeping the Christmas spirit.
Always look forward to Christmas every year, though wish the weather was a bit cooler, tired of mud being tracked into the house.
Yuck, mud. We have some tiny fruit falling from a tree outback and the fruit crud gets everywhere.
It’s also incredibly warm here in Connecticut. Usually at this time of year snow is already starting to pile up, but so far today is the coldest its been (36 degrees). I hope it snows on Christmas Eve, it’s so nice staying up with the family and sipping on a nice cup of hot chocolate.
I love Hot Chocolate. Although I usually drink mine in the mornings to wake up. I strongly dislike the taste and smell of coffee. I’ll send Snow Thoughts your way for a white Christmas.
Can I be both? Even though my shopping is pretty much done, I find it difficult to be in the holiday mood. I no longer think about buying gifts, but what programs I need to attend at church, and when will the endless succession of holiday parties end. I’m a homebody so social interaction terrifies me. So I’ll bask in the warm glow of Christmas until I have to go out in the cold. Like tonight…bah humbug.
Ugg Shopping. We still have to do that. But the list is very short this year. Tonight I get to see the youngest sing in a school program so I can’t have the bah-humbug feeling tonight. Tomorrow I can stay home and glow in the heat from the gas fireplace.
I love Christmas. I don’t care if it’s 80 degrees out on Christmas day. It’s a day to share with family and friend. Definitely NOT a Scrooge, but this year is financially tough on us, so not giving out presents except for the children. My gift to the rest of the family is to cook the entire Christmas Dinner and have the whole family to my house. We have a large family but not too many young children. In our family, when you turn 18 you are no longer a child and are old enough to understand that Christmas is not about getting material things, it’s about love and family and celebrating Jesus’ birthday.
The kids definitely get the most presents in the family. My husband and I use Christmas as an excuse to get something we’d have bought anyway without too much guilt. One part of my husband’s family does a game gift exchange for the adults. It’s a great big thing and everyone has fun. Good Luck with the family dinner.
I grew up in Australia where December is in the summer so I’m okay with the heat. I hate the cold weather anyway.
Rita – It seems strange to me to think of heat in December. But if that is what you’re used to it works. I’m coming to understand that things we take for granted growing up have a larger impact on our lives than we expect.
Since I live near Beth in North Carolina, I can commiserate. But, I moved here four years ago from New Hampshire and I do not miss the shoveling, plowing, and driving in snow. Yes, it is pretty, but I am a writer…I can IMAGINE that the snow is falling while sitting on the deck in shorts. Nice article.
My grandparents used to drive down to Florida from Eastern PA for winter.
But I still love snow. Granted 6ft drifts aren’t fun but it sure is fun to sled down hills.
sounds like a wonderful book
As long as I am with family and friends I really don’t care about the weather! We play games, tell stories of long, long ago (two year?), and take pictures of each other so that we can recognize each other next year :>)
Karin – I prefer to take pictures of the kids and send them to relatives. I’ll stay out of the shots.
Sounds like you have a good time at Christmas.
I am basking in the warm glow of Christmas.Temperatures here keep going back and forth from warm to cold but I still have the spirit.
Wanda – Glad to hear you’re enjoying the season. Thanks for stopping by.
Hi, I am in the middle but the last few years I have been very bah humbuggy, if it weren’t for my kids I don’t know if we would have it.

Brandy – Several of the friends I know have said once their kids are gone, they don’t know if they’d continue to decorate. I think I’ll always decorate – my husband enjoys it – but we may scale back once the kids are gone. When you are so busy it’s hard to want to do the work. Although it is nice once everything is up.
Thanks for stopping by.
Beth, I love the snow. From behind my window.
I am jealous right now that you’re down south. I’m growing to despise the cold. But, I love Christmas no matter where I’ll be. It’s a great time to share with others and be with family. Only gifts for the kids this year. But lots of love to share with all. Have a Happy Holiday.

I like seeing our dog try to jump through drifts of snow. She’s of the toy size so it’s funny to watch her jump to move around.
Always good to come inside to hot chocolate and warm up.
Happy Holidays
I love christmas. Though my family doesnt do presents, or really decorate, we fix a dinner, we each get a stocking full of candy and we spend the day watching christmas movies. Thanks for sharing! Happy holidays!

Hey Shadow. Sounds like a great Christmas tradition.
No chocolate in the stockings by a fireplace, right?
I used to love Christmas, but things have changed since my dad passed away the day after Christmas. My family just don’t celebrate Christmas like they used to. Now my mom isn’t doing well and my husband and I won’t make it back home for Christmas this year. So sometimes I’m in the mood for Christmas, but most of the time I just want it to be over with.

So sorry to hear this Becky. I hope your mother gets better.
I’m not a big Christmas fan as it is so this year has been a little harder with our oddly warm weather. Usually we’d be pushing into subzero ranges but right now it’s almost 50! I don’t mind the warmth but it certainly doesn’t feel like the holiday season.
Rhianna – Colder is better. I’m doing pretty good this year but a few years ago I didn’t even want to decorate. So I understand how it goes.
